I Am Project

Giving kids the physical strength and mental wellbeing to grow and thrive.

What is the I Am Project?

This ground-breaking six-week course is for 13-15-year-olds and teaches martial arts, mental health, fitness and emotional resilience.

“There was a real need in Liverpool schools to help kids believe in themselves, deal with their emotions and develop positive mindsets. We wanted the project to fill the gap in their learning experience.”

Co-founder, Mark Scanlon

For the past three years, Managing Director Mark Scanlon has been running a ground-breaking course in Liverpool secondary schools. Mark has been personally teaching a blend of mental health and fitness sessions to kids from underprivileged backgrounds and to pupils deemed ‘unteachable.’

This unique six-week course teaches martial arts, meditation, mental health fitness, and mobility practice in the form of yoga. Kids are taught how to manage emotions and how to relax.

These sessions also include an empowering talks covering mindset, positive thinking, self-awareness and self-regulation.

Through word of mouth alone, the I Am Project has grown exponentially across Liverpool as schools see the incredible benefits Mark’s courses bring the kids.

Today, Mark has trained up a team of 11 mentors so he can deliver the scheme to more schools. There are now over 40 schools across London and the North West on the waiting list.

To help increase the roll out and meet demand, Mark has teamed up with Liverpool School Sports Partners (LLSP) to help manage logistics and deliver the I Am Project to as many schools as possible.

“Mental health coaching isn’t on the curriculum, but our kids need it. The I Am Project supports schools, supports kids and hopefully gives them the mental and physical tools they need to thrive.”

Mark Scanlon

“The I Am Project gives schools a real lifeline to help teach kids about mental health and emotional health. The project’s success just shows how needed it is, which is why Virtue Developments is passionate about supporting this project and getting it into as many schools as possible.”

Managing Director, David Ayem

At Virtue Developments, we see so much potential in the I Am Project. Mark’s work ethic and passion have seen him do incredible things, but all on a voluntary basis.

That’s why we are not only a sponsor but actively seeking to promote and help grow the I Am Project.

We want to help promote the work of the I Am Project Nationwide and help Mark and LLSP find the support and sponsors it needs to make these courses available to all.

Customer Testimonial

“In 15 years of teaching, the I Am project has been the most engaging project that I have ever seen in school, especially with Mark as its lead. He is a fantastic, relatable role model for our students and his charisma and positive mindset totally captivated the students involved. He and the project he has created are an ideal combination for those students who are in huge need for some personal inspiration”
